Matthew Szczepanowski – Alchemy of Art

CSA gallery – Fall 2016

1818 Callowhill St. - Philadelphia, PA 19130

PRESS RELEASE:

Since 1983, Matthew Szczepanowski has called 1818 Callowhill St. in the Fairmount neighborhood of Philadelphia his artistic home, both endlessly elaborating his own work through new styles and mediums and working to restore art objects and historic buildings within the region.  Over that time, he has watched the neighborhood evolve from crumbling to thriving, seen metal barred windows give way to display windows, and seen the ground floor of his building transform from an auto body work shop to his own gallery and workspace.  To pay homage to the area’s rebirth, Matthew decided to embark on a series of mixed media works composed entirely of repurposed materials compiled with his studio, be it an old sheet of metal, block of wood, bag of plaster, or existing mold, transforming the leftover and forgotten into the fresh and vibrant, as Philadelphia has transformed itself without tearing itself down, hence the title “Alchemy of Art.”

We invite you to view the show though November.  Viewings can be arranged by appointment by calling 215-569-8638, or by email at matthewSZart@gmail.com
